^__^... I love love love love buddhism! I have been to Indian part of tibet for 4 months and never felt like comming back from that place (ladakh). And I have visited almost all buddhist monestries of India. I am so much fascinated by their spiritual ways that I have lots and lots of buddhist stuff in my room too. But I am an athiest, a non beliver of god. I think spirituality lies in art,music, human behaviour and compassion , and God is the last thought where you can find spirituality.
I could send u pics of buddhist temples I visited too!

You know, you are so right about that..many people who are avid church-goers believe that the only way to reach salvation is through, well, going to church and performing a bunch of rituals. And the funny part is that most children whose parents are religious, are either forced to believe or become religious because everyone else does it...I am an agnostic...I don't really know if there is a god...that's just my take on it. I hope no one takes any offense to what I have to say. If I offended any one in any way, I'm sorry.
So, just curious, how's life in India?

I love to tell people abt the our lifestyle and you asked about it, so I realised I should answer when I am really free, and I should answer is some details.
Well , I live in top most region of India , my town is Jammu and it is millitancy stricken,lacks facilities, we dont have a mall over here and moreover we dont get electricity almost 4 hours in a day. Sounds strange?
And it is great to know that you have opted for art stream, damn me. In India art isnt considered anything till school level. We have science stream, commerce and in arts we have subjects like history, sociology etc. and real art isnt considered a part of academics and I am suffering like anything. Though I am among topper of class, I have more interest in creative stuff and science. Indian studies are very hard, its like I have taken "full sciences" it includes bio,chem,maths,physics,english and exams are toooo difficult. At the end of session (year) we have to give a single exam of full syllabus and science over here is difficult than amercain ( I have seen book from US too.) . And we hAve alot of competition over here, 95% marks arent enough to get enrolled in top most colleges. But my field is different
I want to get into a design college.I have exams from 16th july onwards and I am very nervous (like other mates of mine). This time we got vacations of 1 months and only 3 months have passed and school have given us 1/2 syllabus to prepare for exams.
Otherwise, there's much corruption in India and we have lots of communal crisis. Homosexuality has been legalized a few days back and religious groups are protesting. The weather of my region is worst all over, we have immense heat in summers and chill in winters. And it kills!
There's not much to tell but I would surely like to tell you anything you want to know about life over here and if you desire to see picture of something of my place you may tell me (like temples,market etc). i'll surely try to egt them for you!
I love sharing such things and telling/and knowling about life of people in other countries.

Mkay, so what are the trends over in India? Are you guys into the whole emo-punk rock thing? That's really popular here..and also, a lot of people here are into reality TV and pop singers like Brittany Spears...stupid, mindless stuff. It's incredibly annoying..you guys must think Americans are bored and lazy...
I have a question...are you even allowed to be an atheist? Even though you are an atheist, are you still required to take a class on religion to explore Hinduism? I went to a Catholic school and they forced us to take classes to enlighten us about Catholicism. Do you believe in any of the many gods depicted in the ancient texts? And do you believe in an afterlife? Doyou believe in Karma and reincarnation? That we are living, changing and yet dying all at once? Heavy stuff, huh.
Anyways, I took a class on different religions of the world..In India, there is a caste system, yes? Does it still exist?
Oh, and do you let cows roam freely in the streets?
Homosexuality was just legalized? Do you mean homosexuality is finally being accepted, or marital bonds are being permitted for the homosexual communities in India?
And I would love to see pics of your country! Yes, indeedy!

Frankly,its very stressful to be a student over here. LOL!
Like, I have to study two chapters of physics , two of biology , one of maths today. I really dont get time to check my internet too, or do creative work. I have lots and lots of Ideas in my head, But damn I am not able to pen them down. Its truly insane. Today the weather changed to rainy and the electricity problem didnt bothered me since it was okay. And btw , we dont have ACs in whole home , we have it in one room only, and others are naturally cooled (or heated Hehe).
We dont really use internet as much . Frankly saying I havent even bought anything via internet. And our school teachers are technically handicapped..
I think, I am the only self-acclaimed atheist in my school or any school of my town. It was hard for me , since I constantly get bullied by theist peers and I land into an endless debate with school teachers (and I always win). I spoke a topic on atheism in the school assembly , and I became the pink elephant in the school. Everyone was talking abt me and I got many scoldings from teachers , But I really dominated (because I was firm about my spirituality and they werent ). Principal has passed an order to scrutenize the topics spoken in school assembly before-hand. And I have even denied to pray in the morning assemby (as per the ritual) and nobody could force me since INDIA is a secular country!
My family dont follow hindusim , it follows sikhism (pls google search it). I have spent 7 years in a sikh school. And now I am happy to get out of it. I was such a barb!
I believe in everything scientific, and my spirituality lies in art and compassion. I dont believe in anything else like afterlife etc. My parents really respect my faith of non-faith (unlike any other parents ...) . I simply love them.
Trends...hmmm.. teens wear tees and jeans and seriously enogh, nobody really knows emo/punk or any urban subculture deeply (except me ofcourse ..m different from other indian teens). Its funny when some teens try to act emo on social networking website .. and keep emo pics and talk wid opposite nature to that of an emo..like "Hello dude! lets rock on!"... I feel like saying "HOLY SHIT! EMOS ARE SO SADISTIC and STUFF!"... they try to act like they know all abt western cultures and stuff and actually they are illiterate in these things. But I surely do, I love goth and cybergoth culture.
Linkin park and Akon is too famous here. I hate them both, I Loce Marilyn manson (his new album isnt good.. pathetic i must say), I love EMILIE AUTUMN AND IAMX too .. my fav song is Missile by IAMX.
Caste system has been diluted by modernisation.Strangely, people of low caste are benifitted now , they get reserved seats in colleges and other such benefits (it was made for their upliftment but it ruined all things). Caste practise is a crime now. My family dont have such reserved benefits , since our ancestors belonged to upper caste "KSHTIRYAS" (warriors). But now who cares. We dont really know , if the person next to us is of higher or lower caste!
Since I am born in a sikh family, we are far from hinduism. Sijhism is very rational, it is like "we should have faith in GOD and superstitions should not be given any heed of , they are considered a crime in sikhism".
Cows and buffalows are let out in streets and they are very annying, govt. has made rule for not letting them roam, but the cow catchers are religious ppl and fear that if they force cows not to roam , it would bring misfortune !! HOLY CRAP!,,, I hate those creatures roaming here and there!
Homosecualtiy has been accepted finally but homosexual marital relations arent legal.

Frankly, I know all about life in US , I have two of my uncles in new york , my cousins in michigan and boston in colleges. But I would really like to know about ur fav. music and about ur ethnicity, i.e how ur ancestors (or maybe parents) moved to US from Indonesia etc.
it would also be helpful if you could tell me about topmost design colleges in US!
And , Is marilyn's new album becomming famous in US?
